Duty to God Opportunities

Posted by mburden on Nov 3 2018 - 10:46am

Dear Pack 129 Family Members:

Moral development and faith is a big part of scouting.

Each year in scouting, at the Den level, there is a Duty to God requirement. That requirement has a fair amount of flexibility within it to accommodate many faith and beliefs traditions. Your Den Leaders will discuss this requirement with you and the boys at some point during the year. Typically, this is the one requirement that is done largely within the home.

Separate from the annual Duty to God requirement scouts are able to earn religious awards through faith organization, for example, the God an Me Award (earned once between 1st and 3rd grade) and the God and Family Award (earned once between 4th and 6th grade). Both of these awards are completely optional, but provide the scout and his family with additional context to develop one's faith and belief structure. The God and Me Award typically require 3 sessions to complete. The God and Family typically requires 4 sessions to complete. These awards can NOT be done on your own.

If you are interested in having your son earn this award, please reach out to your clergy and discuss. If you do, please let us know so that we can appropriately have the Pack recognize the award upon completion and attach the achievement to your son's scout records.

As you know Westminster sponsors our Pack. Westminster will be offering classes for either of these awards to anyone in Pack 129 that is interested, not just Westminster church members. Last year we had about 16 boys take the class through Westminster, all of which had either Protectant or Catholic family traditions. The material at both levels covers the basics, the classes through Westminster aren't a deep dive into doctrinal theology debates. If you are interested in having your son earn this award through Westminster, please contact Sean Heather. Classes will be late on Sunday afternoons and start in early December, then break for Christmas and will finish up in January

Ideally, those who choose to earn a religious emblem will do so in advance of Scout Sunday, which is in early February.

So, if you are interested in having your scout earn your faith's award, contact your clergy, if you are interested in taking these classes through Westminster, contact Sean Heather at ssheather31@yahoo.com.

3 weeks left for Popcorn

Posted by mburden on Oct 8 2018 - 8:56pm

Hopefully you all got some popcorn sold over the long weekend!   Rain in the forecast?  Call your relatives and sell them some popcorn or do some online selling!   We're now under 3 weeks to go!   Remember that out Pack is able to run thanks to your efforts through popcorn sales!   As always have fun selling the popcorn!

Popcorn

Posted by mburden on Sep 30 2018 - 9:14pm

We hope everyone has started selling popcorn!  It's a great way to meet your neighbors and spread the word about scouts!    Please remember to collect money at the point of sale.  This will make the final accounting much easier on everyone on October 29th when sales end.  One option, too, is to collect the funds and write a single check to Pack 129.

Tip of the week:  Take the form to the office and boost sales through colleagues!

As always, please feel free to reach out to the Popcorn Colonels at any time with questions!  Just email Jane jsbatson111@yahoo.com.
